Par la suite, il ne sortit plus à l'air libre que pour lécher la roche humide, pour lâcher son urine et ses excréments, et pour chasser des lézards et des serpents. De nuit, ils étaient faciles à attraper, car ils étaient tapis sous des cailloux plats ou dans de petites anfractuosités ou il les découvrait a l'odeur.
